Erythropoiesis is subject to humoral control. It is logical, therefore, to surmise that other products of the primitive pluripotential marrow cells, for example, platelets, might be similarly influenced. Recent studies indicate that humoral regulators does exert physiologic and pathophysiologic control over thrombopoiesis. Normal rats were given 10 daily doses of test materials by gastric tube; platelets were counted by phase microscopy. About 70% increases in platelet counts appear to constitute maximum responses with this assay technique. Doses of heat-denatured normal plasma (human or rabbit) equivalent to 1% of the recipients' weights were inactive. When the dose was doubled, a 30%
