In spite of its extensive use in the treatment of clinical hypotensive states, the effect of norepinephrine on the coronary circulation of human subjects has received scant attention. Twenty-one patients were studied in conjunction with diagnostic cardiac catheterization. Systemic pressures and cardiac output were measured by standard techniques. Coronary blood flow was measured by previously described methods employing I131 iodoantipyrine or krypton85. In a steady intravenous infusion (2 to 17 µg/min), norepinephrine caused a pari passu rise in coronary perfusing pressure and coronary blood flow of 21% above the control level.
