Tonight I wish to direct my remarks to those individuals who have just joined the ranks of the American College of Physicians as Fellows. In taking the College Oath of Fellowship you have participated in a tradition that extends over several centuries.
We are living in a revolutionary age—politically, scientifically, and socially. There is little time for reflection upon the past. It is the present and future that engage our interest. However, great leaders have benefited from a survey of the past. A broad perspective of history gave wisdom to the leadership of Churchill.
