A group of some two dozen neurologists, neurophysiologists, psychologists, psycholinguists, speech pathologists, and others met at a CIBA Symposium in London in 1963 on Disorders of Language and reports their investigations and speculations concerning aphasia, a sizable-enough portion of the vast area suggested by the title.
When Head surveyed the area of aphasia in 1926, he reported its status in one word: chaos. A generation later an area of study worthy of distinctive designation has taken form—aphasiology. The symposium reflects substantial progress in applying scientific methodology to discover orderlinesses regarding anatomical, physiological, and behavioral aspects of aphasia.
