In this book, Dr. Altschul and 12 contributors have covered the history, chemistry, pharmacology, and particularly the clinical use of nicotinic acid in great detail. Their chief purpose was to present niacin as the most effective and relatively nontoxic hypocholesteremic agent available at the present time. They have more than achieved this aim.
In stating the merits of niacin, one of the chapters suggests that the drug may be useful in all kinds of cardiac, pulmonary, peripheral vascular and renal diseases, including toxemia of pregnancy.
