McCarthy and Schlar's book offers valuable assistance to the physician faced with the unfamiliar terrain of oral lesions. The differential diagnosis of the varied types of glossitis, stomatitis, gingivitis, as well as tumors and vesiculobullous diseases should provide him with a good method of approach to the specific patient whose problem prompts the physician to turn to the literature for help.
