The American College of Physicians has just celebrated, at the Golden Anniversary Session in Chicago, its fiftieth birthday. Such a half-century mark is viewed in terms of youthfulness or antiquity, of course, according to the age of the viewer. To the Royal College of Physicians in London, hoary with the antiquity of four and one half centuries, the sister organization in the Western Hemisphere must seem to be a mere infant. But to those members of the American College who worked so hard in the early years to create a similar institution to foster and uphold the highest standards of
