The incidence and results of treatment of acute leukemia in a total of 386 adolescent and adult patients during the course of three consecutive 5-year periods are compared (90 patients, 1948 to 1952 inclusive; 136 patients, 1953 to 1957; 160 patients, 1958 to 1962). There were 213 males and 173 females. Both the increasing incidence in successive periods and the predominance of males were more marked above the age of 19 years. Of the total 386 cases, 185 were classified as granulocytic, 164 as monocytic, and 37 as lymphocytic.
Antimetabolites and corticosteroids alone or in combination were employed in the
