A new radiopharmaceutical MHP (Merprane®) binds tightly to erythrocytes resulting in splenic sequestration and subsequent scintillation scanning. Studies in 50 subjects in this report suggests a measure of the sequestration function of the spleen.
Erythrocyte damage by MHP is induced by a concentration of 1.5 mg/ml of blood at a 50% hematocrit reading for 15 to 30 minutes at room temperature results in agglutination in vitro.
