As noted in the preface, this book is the product of a series of 18 lectures given by different specialists at the National Hospital in London in 1964. Herein lies its strength and weakness: each lecture was "reproduced almost exactly as it was delivered."
The lectures vary in quality from mediocre to excellent, and most of them would have benefited by competent editing prior to publication. It is also mentioned in the preface that "a small but adequate list of references is added to each chapter." The paucity, in many instances, of the references is acknowledged by this reviewer but
