Most practicing physicians lack knowledge and hold misconceptions of the concepts encompassed by the modern field of physiatric medicine. It is fortuitous, therefore, that a complete and well-organized textbook in this discipline should appear at this time, an appearance especially germane now in view of the dramatically changing patterns of health care in this country—patterns that will change even more with the activation of Medicare in mid-1966.
