The functions of the corpus callosum have been discussed and disputed greatly in recent years. Clinical findings have attributed little functional significance to the corpus callosum, while experimental findings show that certain functions are dependent on its integrity. As the corpus callosum develops pari passu with the evolution of the neocortex in mammals, the role of this commissure may be related to the function of the neocortex in processing and storing data. The results of studies on interhemispheric transfer of data derived from split brain preparations and the relation to communication (aphasia) are two of the several areas discussed in
