The usefulness of antimetabolites capable of inhibiting nucleic acid biosynthesis has been generally limited by their severe systemic toxicity. Although beneficial effects have been observed in certain neoplastic disorders, the ability of these compounds to inhibit proliferation of all rapidly reproducing tissues often results in marked hematopoietic suppression, stomatitis, gastrointestinal ulcerations, and loss of hair (1). Increased mitotic activity and hyperplasia are also characteristics of the epidermal lesion of psoriasis. Interference with cellular replication by antimetabolites and related antineoplastic agents has achieved beneficial results in psoriasis but not without toxic manifestations due to similar effects in the normal tissues of
