To the Editor: I am writing this letter to call your attention to a number of errors and misconceptions reported in an article by LeRoy and Guerrant, entitled "Breathing Mechanics in Asthma," published in the October 1965 issue of the ANNALS OF INTERNAL MEDICINE. On p. 579, there is a statement in which the authors quote Marshall as saying that the functional residual capacity (FRC) increases as the lung compliance decreases. The authors then go on to interpret this statement in relation to their own data. Careful reading of Marshall's paper indicates that just the opposite is the case, that
