The development of newer techniques for hemodialysis and peritoneal lavage has renewed interest in the management of patients with chronic renal failure and uremia. Scribner and associates have used chronic hemodialysis to maintain patients with terminal renal failure. The expense of this procedure, however, has limited its usefulness and application.
Although a number of patients have been carried on weekly peritoneal lavage, no organized effort to manage a number of patients with chronic renal failure by the method of less frequent peritoneal lavage has been documented.
