Every clinician interested in the factors that influence the occurrence and course of disease is something of an epidemiologist in the present-day sense of the term, whether he knows it or not. In reaching sound interpretations of his own experience and that of others, there are a few basic principles that he must have in mind. Dr. Paul, an old and respected campaigner in the epidemiological field, has concisely outlined and illustrated many of these principles.
