[In the letter entitled "pH Defended" by Drs. Hills and Reid (Ann. Intern. Med. 65: 1150, 1966) an unfortunate typographical error obscured the meaning and one reference in their line of thought. This error was the omission of part of a sentence (as shown in boldface below). The sentences beginning on line 26, column 1, should have read:
Sörensen (3) and Clark (4) then showed that it is variation of the logarithm of [H+], rather than of [H+] itself, that is most simply and generally related to acid-base equilibria and to related kinetic aspects of solution chemistry, a penetrating insight
