The usefulness of this book to practitioners and students is shown by the number of editions published in less than 30 years. This tenth edition is a comparatively large textbook of medical treatment which is authoritative in approach. No references are given. Management of patients rather than treatment of diseases is the theme throughout. This is where it differs from most handbooks of therapy. The contributors are experienced physicians from schools in Scotland. They write with grace and authority. Controversial matters are given little space and are ably handled.
