An investigation of the occurrence of leukemia and lymphoma in Nebraska has revealed 29 documented and 11 suspected multiple family instances of the coexistence of these disorders, mainly lymphoproliferative neoplasms. The consideration of these hemotologic malignancies together for the purpose of this study has been considered appropriate on the basis of pathological, clinical, therapeutic, prognostic, and presumed etiologic similarities, allowing for a variable expression of neoplastic potential implicit in a genetic or environmental factor concerned in causation (Rigby, Rosenlof, and Pratt, JAMA 197: 25, 1966).
