In the preface to the second edition of this book, the author indicates "that in the field of auscultation, original observations are infrequent." It is probably for this reason that the text of this book does not include very much new material not presented in the first edition. The bibliography, however, has been completely revised. Fully 85% of the 180 references cited have appeared in the literature since this book was first printed 9 years ago. Now, as then, this work remains a very worthwhile guide to auscultation.
