This is an opportune time to present the medicolegal issues to be considered by a physician undertaking the treatment, or other disposition, of narcotic-dependent persons (addicts) (1). In the past few years, there has been a marked increase in the attention given in professional and lay publications and other channels of communication to problems of narcotic and other drug dependence (addiction).
