The majority of the 17 chapters of this book do not contain new material but rather consist of short reviews concerning highly specialized facets of the morphology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology of nervous tissue. The material was presented at a conference held at The Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia on November 12 and 13, 1964.
While current, original, and significant research was broadly sampled, 17 papers cannot be expected to do justice to all the recent developments in the neurological sciences. Nonetheless, the quality of individual chapters is of sufficient caliber to make this book of lasting value to basic
