Historical, biographical essays on the development of surgery and allied sciences, with lengthy quotations from salient texts and papers. This edition, a republication (with corrections) by Dover of the edition published in 1961 by Williams & Wilkins, is a handsome book, and its illustrations (portraits, plates from texts) retain their original high quality. Dover Publications must be commended for adding another fine text to its already excellent list in medical history and for making it available at such a modest price. At $3.00 this edition is virtually a giveaway; medical students and those physicians with an interest in medical history
