My worn copy of the first edition of Sodeman's Pathologic Physiology is a slim volume that could easily be carried about by a female medical student. The fourth edition of this popular text by 30 authors contains slightly over 2 pounds of additional information on pathophysiology. As opposed to earlier editions, the current work devotes considerable attention to autoimmune disease, genetics, metabolism, and the nervous system and has amplified many other sections.
When I was a medical resident, I enjoyed reading Sodeman because it was a handier text than the standard works in medicine and because it was beneath my
