The cover title of this book may be somewhat confusing for those not familiar with this field. The author is not referring to bilharzial involvement of the small and large intestine but to infection with the blood fluke, Schistosoma mansoni. The 20 chapters of the book, 3 of which were written by other experts (C. J. Schiff, V. de V. Clarke, E. Lee Husting) from the same area of Africa as the principal author, attempt to cover the entire field but do so rather superficially.
