The Modern Trends series is the British counterpart of our Year Books and Annual Reviews. The volume on radiotherapy, however, resembles neither. It is a collection of independent essays on selected aspects of the specialty with strong emphasis on the influence of radiobiological research on experimental therapy. The principal themes are the relationship between the reproductive cycle of cells and vulnerability to radiation, the influence of fractionation of dose on the therapeutic result, the oxygen effect, and the utility of fast neutrons and heavy particles.
