An investigation was made of the fall in blood pressure that occurs during a night's sleep. The stage of sleep was identified from the electroencephalogram (five channels), the electrooculogram, and the submental electromyogram. On the last of three successive nights intra-arterial pressure was recorded continuously. Transient reflex bradycardia was produced by the rise in pressure after repeated intravenous injections of 0.25 to 2.0 µg of angiotensin, when subjects were awake and in each successive stage of sleep.
