Dr. Rumke's introductory description of "Men in Middle Life" is accurate as a whole range of launching pads for future study and research, rather than as an attempted synthesis of previous work, although its authors make the attempt, while ostensibly focusing on mental health in men of middle age, to bring together a mass of information relating not only to the age group 40 to 60 but also to the entire life span of modern man in a variety of cultures.
