Year by year most of us become steadily more skilled in one corner of medicine but more ignorant of what is going on elsewhere. We can be saved from invincible parochialism by the instruction of house officers; by lectures, panels, and similar devices at meetings, symposia, and postgraduate courses; and by systematic reading of editorials and reviews. The collections of reviews described here are of three kinds, each collection useful in its own way to academic and practicing physicians.
