Dr. Eugene A. Stead, Jr., has devoted a life to providing health services. Turning raw manpower into teachers, scientists, consultants, or family physicians has always excited him. Yet, Dr. Stead has long realized that health services cannot be provided by a one-to-one relationship—that is, one doctor to one patient. Years ago he included student nurses as a part of his teaching program. He made the Hanes program possible, whereby nurses could function as consultants in patient care and be recompensed for such services. He demonstrated that even a local fireman could be trained to function on the health team in
