To the Editor: In reading Dr. Calvin Kunin's interesting editorial note entitled "More on Antimicrobials in Renal Failure" (Ann. Intern. Med. 69: 397, 1968), I find the paragraph concerning nitrofurantoin contains a statement that deserves further explanation.
While the studies of Dr. Kunin and Dr. Schlegel have clearly shown nitrofurantoin is poorly excreted by uremic patients and while it is true that neurotoxicity has been reported in uremic patients who received nitrofurantoin, it is believed the sentence that reads, "Accordingly, the drug appears to be contraindicated in the face of even moderate renal failure," is worthy of refinement as to
