To the Editor: I was interested to read the editorial note on familial renal tubular acidosis (RTA) by Dr. Vardaman M. Buckalew (Ann. Intern. Med. 68: 1367, 1968). I feel that his statement that "in other reported families, the mode of genetic transmission is not as clearly defined" is not quite true as it fails to review the world literature on the inheritance of RTA adequately. In my own family study of 27 patients investigated (1-4), 18 were affected. Eleven of the 18 patients with RTA were females, which supports the contention that there is greater expressivity of RTA in
