To the Editor: We read with great interest the paper of Segal, Miller, and Moses on hypercalcemia during the diuretic phase of acute renal failure (Ann. Intern. Med. 68: 1066, 1968). Recently (June 1968) we have been concerned with the same problem:
Our patient, a farmer aged 38, developed acute renal failure due to severe soft tissue injury after a road accident. During the anuric phase he had been hypocalcemic (7.2 mg/100 ml), and on the eleventh day of polyuria he was found to be normocalcemic (9.7 mg/100 ml), on the fourteenth day of the diuretic phase, however, hypercalcemia developed.
