A spate of texts titled genetics or heredity variously coupled with man, medicine, human, and disease have appeared in the last few years. Each has presumably served its purpose. However, the needs of medical students and practitioners have usually not been met. This text does well for the medical student and for the practitioner who has not learned the fundamentals of medical genetics. The information is contemporary, the presentation straightforward, and the style uncluttered. The book is more comprehensive than other single volumes but frequently of necessity lacks specific details—for example, the biochemical background of the dysproteinemias. Three or four
