A case of intermittent atrioventricular (AV) block with Adams-Stokes attacks induced by sustained hiccups is presented. The attacks were eliminated by stopping the hiccups. The heart block appeared to be caused by increased vagal tone and could be abolished by atropine. Possible mechanisms for this are discussed.
