This is without a doubt an extremely useful handbook for molecular biology. Its success stems in part from the eminence of its advisory board whose chairman is Robert A. Harte and whose other members have names of equal stature in the field.
The Handbook is divided into 11 sections, including a concise nomenclature and abbreviation section for amino acids, carbohydrates, vitamins, and lipids. In addition, this section includes nomenclature for immunoglobulins, notations for genetic factors of the human immunoglobulins, and finally a proposal of standard conventions in nomenclature for the description of polypeptide conformation.
