Internists participating in the current upsurge of family medicine and emergency room medicine will be interested in this excellent summary of the mangement of pediatric and medical emergencies. Although the editor rightly states that the child is not a miniature adult, he has presented pearls, pitfalls, advice, and an extremely up-to-date review of medical emergency literature (including references to New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA) that apply to the internist as well as the pediatrician.
Organization is by body system with additional chapters on the newborn, anesthesia, procedures, inhalation therapy, and miscellaneous emergencies. Dr. Varga's chapter on poisoning lists
