The search for experimental models of viral hepatitis has been stimulated by the need to gain insight into the mechanisms operative in the human disease. Piazza and his mentor, Prof. Fernando deRitis, who wrote a short foreword, have been studying hepatitis in mice to answer some of the problems arising in human hepatitis. The results of their work along with an extensive review of the work of many others are given. Hepatitis in rats, hamsters, and dogs is then briefly considered, as well as Rift Valley fever, yellow fever, and human hepatitis in nonhuman primates. Two chapters on hepatitis in
