It is a common disadvantage of books written by a number of authors that the different chapters differ not only in style but also in quality of the material presented. This very timely handbook on hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis not only avoids this difficulty but does not even mention to which author the different chapters should be attributed. It is very well written, precise, and still covers dialytic therapy exhaustively.
The first chapter of the book presents an excellent historical summary that gives credit where credit is due, especially to the often forgotten early and not well-known successful attempts at
