In most major medical institutions the cardiologist and cardiac surgeon cooperate in the care of patients with surgically remediable forms of heart disease. It seems natural that a textbook should be written which contains information of interest and value to both the cardiologist and surgeon. The authors have written the book not only for "cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, but also for physicians who deal with such problems and for graduate and senior undergraduate students." It is in this attempt to satisfy everyone that the book has its major shortcoming.
