A 52-year-old patient had severe obstruction of the left renal artery, and renal biopsy of the left kidney showed diffuse ischemic tubular atrophy. A thromboendarteriectomy was done. The patient died suddenly, 6 years later. Autopsy showed a patent left renal artery, and a detailed study of the left kidney failed to show any ischemic tubular atrophic lesions. This is the first report of reversal of ischemic tubular atrophy in humans.
