It is customary for the jacket of a new book to boast an impressive display of enthusiastic reviews and flattering descriptions which frequently bear more relationship to the wishful thinking of the publisher than to the contents of the book. The third edition of Schiff's Diseases of the Liver is a welcome exception to this cynical view and is all that the book jacket claims. It remains "the definitive text in the field of hepatic diseases."
The 30 chapters, written by 42 contributors prominent in their field, encompass virtually the entire spectrum of liver disease. The many changes in this
