The purpose of this program is to eliminate the informational gap between expanding medical research and bedside medicine in the context of therapy for urinary tract infections (UTI). Systems analysis has established logical sequences leading to the diagnosis of UTI, criteria for urgency to treat, the required bacteriology backup, and choice of therapeutic agent. Major logical decision-points identified and information barriers that had arisen between clinician and bacteriologist were eliminated, providing a flow of pertinent information between specialists involved in the therapy of UTI.
