The first home dialysis program was instituted at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston, in December 1963. Since that time our experience has included 55 patients, 5 of whom are in training and 50 of whom have been dialyzed at home for periods of from 1 month to 5 years. This represents 492 patient months and a total of 5,566 dialyses at home utilizing the twin-coil artificial kidney. Age range of patients is from 15 to 70 years. Twenty-eight are currently in the home, 12 have undergone transplantation, and 10 have died. Evolution of this program has been accompanied by
