This well-organized and illustrated work is the culmination of the author's extensive experience in surgery of the biliary tract. A short historical review is followed by descriptions of biliary anatomy and physiology. Heavy emphasis is then placed on the diagnosis and surgical management of extrahepatic disorders. The book ends with a lengthy discussion of the complications of biliary surgery and their relationship to coexistent disease, a section in which the author draws heavily from his experience with 2,285 operations on the biliary tract.
