The academic subtitle should not put off the casual reader. This authoritative monograph is a careful, detailed account for the biologist of the authors' thorough investigations into anatomy, biochemistry, and influences of drugs in the spider's web-spinning, but it is also a good story in backyard biology for the rest of us. Recommended for libraries with holdings in basic pharmacology; would make a good Christmas or birthday gift for the high-school or college nephew with an appetite for what used to be called natural history.
