The content of the 14 papers comprising this Ciba Foundation Symposium ranges from chromatographic theory to the use of gas chromatography in anesthesiology, forensic toxicology, and drug metabolism. The description by A. J. P. Martin of his development of partition chromatography and gas chromatography is of more than historical value and should interest every worker in these fields.
