The preface to a book is usually written last, and it of ten represents its apologia. In his preface Dr. Walford states that if the theory that immunological phenomena are implicated in the "pathogenesis" of aging should prove incorrect, the book would still be useful because it gives an almost exhaustive account of the information available on the changes that occur with age on the immunological system and its parameters. I fully agree with this, and herein resides the main usefulness of the book.
The large amount of information that is presented would make for rather ponderous reading, as Dr.
