A concise, informative, and readable treatise on the biochemistry of metalloproteins has been overdue. These desirable qualities are embodied in this book.
The authors start, perhaps too logically, with a discussion of the properties of metal-ligand complexes and the techniques that are used to study these compounds. The basic theory of stability constants and transition metal bonding is discussed to an extent that enables even one who is unfamiliar with these concepts to grasp the essentials. This material is nicely reinforced later in the discussion of optical and magnetic properties of metalloproteins. The techniques of optical rotatory dispersion and electron
