The use of pacemakers has resulted in a variety of interesting auscultatory findings. The nature of these findings depends on the mode of pacing, the atrial rhythm, the integrity of atrioventricular and ventriculoatrial conduction, and abnormal sounds or murmurs presumably produced by malposition of the pacemakers. These auscultatory findings are reviewed with illustrations. An understanding of these phenomena is useful for proper clinical evaluation of the pacer function.
